My Credentials

By Dr. Wilfried Busse, Ph.D.

I received my Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Counseling Psychology at the University of Maryland. I completed my internship at the Baltimore VA Medical Center. I am a licensed psychologist in Maryland (license No. 03181). This means that I fulfilled rigorous requirements for clinical hours and supervision and passed both state and national licensing examinations. I have been a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and staff psychologist at the Trauma Recovery Programs at the Baltimore Veterans Affairs Medical Center. In this capacity I had experience in treating the most severe cases of combat-related stress disorders. At the VA I was also coordinator of the Employee Assistance Program.

My clinical training has covered the full range of psychological services, from community mental health, inpatient and outpatient clinics, supervision, teaching, consulting and in-depth psychotherapy. Settings in which I have worked include college counseling centers, inpatient and outpatient mental health clinics, hospitals, and corporations. I attend a variety of professional meetings throughout the year and consult with colleagues and consultants regularly about my work. My teaching experience has included teaching undergraduates, psychiatry Grand Rounds and numerous seminars on stress, post-traumatic stress, and EMDR to lay and professional audiences. I am also a consultant for Exercise and Training Systems, Inc. which involves teaching regular seminars on behavior modification and life style change for diabetics and cardiology patients.

In addition to my degree in psychology, I hold a Master of Arts in the Philosophy of Religion from Andrews University in Michigan and a Bachelor of Arts in French and German from Columbia College, MD. I also hold a diploma of French Language and Letters from the University of Marseilles, France. I am able to conduct therapy sessions in French and German if the need arises.

I am a member of the American Psychological Association, Division 17 (Counseling Psychology) and Division 36 (Psychology of Religion). I am also a member of the Maryland Psychological Association and the Mental Health Association of Montgomery Co., MD. As a member of the Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing International Association (EMDRIA), I hold certifications as "certified therapist" and "Approved Consultant" which allows me to consult with EMDR therapists-in-training and conduct seminars on EMDR. I am a member of the EMDR Therapist Network. Finally, I have published several articles in professional journals.
